Good tool in some ways, but completely falls down in other ways. As a general translation tool, it can be a real life saver. But it gets pretty confused with some really basic stuff too. The voice translate (at least from french and Japanese) is completely unusable. And it has a lot of trouble with being too literal, and getting things quite wrong. Particularly with French, there needs to be a better voice recognition tool, and alot more polish with the subtleties of this heavily idiomatic language. 3/5

This app works great. However thanks to Verizon, it was totally useless during my trip to Mexico! I planned on using this and other great apps with my smart phone while abroad. But I had no connection as promised by verizon. They charged me a rediculous amount to be able to connect and I still could not connect. I am so tired of them telling me things that aren't true. It seems to be a requirement to not know anything about verizon services, packages or phone to be able to work for them. I am seriously considering switching companies. As far as this app, it is absolutely wonderful as long as you don't leave the country or want to use it where you really need it most. If you do plan on traveling outside the country make sure you download the language you want to have it available off line. 5/5

I have tried several translator apps before and this is, by far, the best one I've come across. Why? It allows you to save your favorite translations, which is great when you need/want to say something multiple times; the speech-to-text feature is almost always on point; you can easily clear your search history; you are able to choose your personal dialect; you can easily copy and paste translations. Overall, if you're looking for a FREE and very easy to use translation app, this is the one. 5/5

I like this app helps me learn language but wish that Google can please have a dictionary mode for language that i already speak as when translated we can see the dictionary for the language we want it to translate into but if we reverse the words it isn't always the same so can Google please make it possible to see the dictionary of the word we want to translate as well as the translation would help a lot and get 5 stars from me. 4/5

This is a very usefull application. But the new version has already come with a big problem together. it is unable to make zoom in and zoom out on photo-shot translate: it makes totally useless this funktion for mobile phone users, specially if you want to translate some books essays and paragraphs. The words are very small on the screen and everytime it is uneasy to chose right words with out zoom in. It made me very disappointed! I hope that the developpers will correct this important problem very soon. 2/5

Really hard to believe how bad this is. Constantly crashes offline, and online sucks your data, god knows for what reason (sending private data to Google most likely). low quality app very disappointed. 1/5

Aside from usual mistranslations (which I expect, especially with Japanese) it is pretty useful. I use it for Japanese and the handwritten character recognition is very useful and much more forgiving of sloppy writing and incorrect stroke order than other apps. The big downside is that the latest update introduced a feature that autoadvances to the next character whenever you pause which is extremely frustrating with kanji. Please add a setting to disable this feature. 3/5

This app contains great concept of capturing the image of words. But the problem is that it doesn't translates many Indian languages like Punjabi which i desperately need please keep adding more languages. And other problem is that it doesn't listen audio clip and type it,please fix these issues otherwise i am gonna give it five stars 3/5

Comes in handy when people assume you have no clue, whilst the translator not only translates but captures voice to where, especially in a work setting, you are able to have a deeper awareness. As well as when needed for relatives and friends that are not as composed with English can have the comfort of communication without the barrier therefore less misunderstandings and mistakes. Saves you the time of learning multiple languages. So all in all I would suggest this application, 5/5

Who's the one behind the translation process??? Because when i typed "ikut islam ada kejayaan" which cleraly should be translated into "Follow islam there is success" but then it translated to "follow islam no success"... I hope google can address this problem asap 1/5

it is so much better than the old version because of the camera and the new coverstion translation but there is a problem with the camera it is not translating it is saying no network connection 5/5

In ths app with I want to convert Hindi language into English I can only write and ther is no option for reconarzing Hindi language image and the is no mike button when I choose Hindi into English.In update please do that there should he all the three options(picture, mike, writing).Thank You. 2/5

Very nice app made by Google, who makes Android. But the app is incapable of seeing the external SD card on many phones/tablets made by Samsung, Motorola, Asus and so on. These companies altered how the storage locations are named. So if you have an app (like Translate) and it tries to find your card at the default Android location, it fails and defaults to internal storage instead. Thanks Google for not addressing this flaw in your own program by not using a storage selection option or a media search. 4/5

Two years ago today, I marrried my amazing Puerto Rican husband. When we met 4 years ago, he did not speak english at all and I do not speak spanish. Thanks to "Translate", I was able to help him learn to understand and speak english, fluently. Of course, its NOT a language teaching app, but it very much helped us to "communicate" and speak to each other even through the more complex language barriers we sometimes faced. I download it onto EVERY ONE of my devices. (2 Samsung Galaxy phones, and 2 tablets) 5/5

For many it would be a great feature if the offline storage could be set to the SD Card. It is frustrating that other useful Travel apps like Nokia Here maps etc do this, but Google's own does not. Having offline translation is not useful if it uses up so much space on the system drive. This app will most likely be used in other countries, where data cost is usually difficult. Having offline access is great but not if it won't go on the SD Card. I cannot see why it would not work , in theory? Otherwise a great app. 2/5

Hands down the best app on Google Play. You can do so much with this app. Plus I am now able to talk and wright with some of my coworker that do not speak English that well. One of them started to cry because it was the first time he was able to really understand what I was saying. It was a great moment. Thank you Google for this app. 5/5

I use this app for work, and to save time, I used the camera to capture large blocks of text. The auto translate is TERRIBLE for handling large blocks of text at once, and I cannot hold my hand still long enough to find what I am looking for. When I use the scan option, it scans the translation, rather than the text itself. PLEASE let me turn off the auto translate. 1/5

I downloaded it and gave it something to translate. and the outcome was partially correct and could not translate some words to english from hindi but still useful. And after downloading if it asks for internet connection i am going to give it only 1* star 3/5

The speaking trsnslation is amazing. But in English to Korean the translations are often very informal to the point of being extremely rude when talking to strangers. 4/5

It translate to an extent but it make no sense when I translate to normally used lines for example when I translated I like you line then after translation it showed me I want you and I came to know this when I copied the text swap the language and then pasted that so this must be fixed because it's of no use if it change sentence itself 2/5

Has some cool features for better known languages like Spanish but when it comes to harder languages with weirder rules like Japanese it is really hit or miss. Japanese text written left to right works maybe half the time but if you have something written vertically right to left good luck. You can try to manually write the kanji in with a touch screen but it has a tendency to duplicate symbols needlessly and print the wrong symbol. 3/5

Translation is not working without internet connection and shows error saying: no internet error (E4) what to do? 1/5

Good but, these later updates have removed the ability to select and copy text, and the option to search words on google site, other problems are for asian languages, especialy japanese, it doesn't give a good translation and doesn't recognise some kanji characters that is used in japanese words. 2/5

Sometime when I type in something and translate it into Spanish its wrong. I know because I know someone who speaks Spanish and they say it is different than Google translate 3/5
